Research to Prevent Blindness/The Glaucoma Foundation 2023 Career Advancement Award
January 29, 2024
Ayellet Segrè, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, received the Research to Prevent Blindness/The Glaucoma Foundation 2023 Career Advancement Award. Dr. Segrè will use this award to identify genetic regulatory effects at the single cell level in the aqueous humor outflow pathways, retina, and optic nerve head, using a combination of single cell genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and computational approaches. By integrating these results with variant associations with glaucoma, the majority of which lie in noncoding regions, she hopes to identify novel disease-causing genes and pathogenic cell types, and propose new neuroprotective drug targets for glaucoma. This resource and approach can also be applied to other common blinding diseases. To learn more about the award see: https://shorturl.at/duwJV.
