Inas Aboobakar, M.D – K23 clinician-scientist grant recipient.
January 29, 2024
Dr. Inas Aboobakar of the Wiggs lab received a K23 clinician-scientist grant from the National Eye Institute. With this grant, Dr. Aboobakar will investigate the clinical impact and underlying disease mechanisms for glaucoma-associated genes that function in the mitochondria, the energy-producing parts of cells. This work is designed to help pave the way for personalized glaucoma care for patients whose disease is driven by mitochondrial gene variants. The methodologies employed can also be readily applied to other genes and pathways in the future to lay the foundation of precision glaucoma care.
