Summer 2014 Bioinformatics Internship
POSITION SUMMARY: Bioinformatics Internship isa summer internship opportunity available through Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Ocular Genomics Institute (OGI) for a graduate student majoring in mathematical and/or computational sciences with a strong research interest in bioinformatics. The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) is a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and an international leader for treatment and research in both Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. The MEEI Bioinformatics Center (MBC) conducts genetic and genomic research while also providing bioinformatics expertise to other clinical and research programs at MEEI. The Center’s research is currently focused on understanding human genetic variations and how they are related to various human diseases and especially eye disorders using bioinformatics and genomics methodologies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The intern is expected to participate in the development of a web-based data analysis and workflow management package for an NGS-based genetic test that is currently offered by the Ocular Genomics Institute.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The intern will be working within MEEI Bioinformatics Center (MBC). The intern will report directly to Dr. Xiaowu Gai and is expected to collaborate with various members of the OGI.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must be a graduate student currently majoring in mathematical and/or computational sciences with a strong research interest in bioinformatics.
